Assam: Silchar-Kalain road blocked in Bhangarpar over poor condition, locals demand immediate repairs
Residents staged a road blockade at Bhangarpar Tiniali on November 7, protesting the dilapidated condition of the Silchar-Kalain road and demanding its immediate repair. The protest led to severe traffic congestion in the area, with several vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.
The protest was organised under the leadership of Farida Parveen Laskar, a member of the Bhuvaneshwar Nagar-Srikona Zilla Parishad. The blockade began at around 12 pm and continued for nearly an hour.
The protesters alleged that the important road had remained in a poor condition for a long time despite repeated complaints to the authorities. They said commuters, school and college students, and even vehicles carrying patients were facing considerable difficulties due to the damaged road.
Following the blockade, Bhangarpar Police Outpost in-charge Dimu Choudhury reached the spot with police personnel and held discussions with the protesters to bring the situation under control.
Later, Jacob Rahman, Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Barkhola-Katigorah Territorial Road Division, also arrived at the site. Farida Parveen Laskar submitted a memorandum to him, setting a 15-day deadline for repairing the road.
The SDO assured the protesters that the matter would be brought to the attention of higher authorities and necessary steps would be taken. Following the assurance, the protesters withdrew the road blockade.
