Assam: Silchar man strangles 7-month pregnant wife to death
A seven-month pregnant woman, Rabiya Begum, was allegedly killed by her husband in Madhurbond area of Silchar, with police arresting the accused, Biru Miya, following a complaint by the victim’s family, officials said.
According to family members, the couple had been married for six years and had two children aged five and three. They alleged that the woman had been subjected to prolonged domestic abuse, and that the accused was involved in an extramarital relationship.
The family claimed that the harassment intensified after the man allegedly married another woman. He would frequently assault her and, at times, pour hot food on her, they alleged.
On the day of the incident, the accused reportedly informed the victim’s family that her condition was critical and called her father. She was later taken to a hospital, where relatives found injury marks on her body, including signs suggesting strangulation.
Neighbours alleged that the woman was kicked in the abdomen despite being pregnant.
The family has filed a complaint seeking strict action. Police said the accused has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
The incident has triggered outrage in the area, with locals demanding justice for the victim.
