Popular Assamese singer Nilotpal Bora was summoned by Dispur Police today, October 2 in connection with allegations that he threatened to break a journalist’s camera. The interrogation lasted for nearly five hours, from 3 PM to 8 PM, before he was allowed to leave.
Police sources confirmed that cases have been registered against Bora in several police stations across Assam, including Guwahati, following complaints about his alleged conduct.
Bora has been directed to appear again at Dispur Police Station this Friday for further proceedings.
During the interrogation, which lasted for hours, Bora submitted a four-page written apology before the police, in which he sought pardon for his alleged actions. In his written statement, he also provided a formal assurance that he would refrain from making insulting or derogatory remarks against journalists in the future.
The case has attracted attention within Assam’s media and cultural circles, raising discussions on freedom of speech, the responsibilities of public figures, and the conduct of journalists in sensitive situations.
Authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing, and further actions will be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry.
