In a concerning development, a support pillar of the makeshift wooden bridge over the Singla River in Sribhumi district’s Durlavchora area has collapsed due to strong water currents, raising alarms over the connectivity of the region.
The primary concrete bridge, which earlier served as a crucial link for the local population, has remained out of service since September last year.
In response to the disruption, authorities had constructed a temporary wooden bridge at an alternate location to ensure continued movement across the river.
However, with the water level of the Singla River rising sharply in recent days, a portion of this substitute bridge has now given way.
Residents and local officials fear that if the remaining structure collapses, it may result in the complete isolation of several villages and hamlets in the vicinity.
Urgent appeals have been made for immediate repair work and long-term infrastructural intervention to prevent a total breakdown in regional connectivity.
