Assam: Singpho King Bisa Nong Singpho’s first death anniversary observed at historic Bisa Gaon in Ledo
The first death anniversary of Singpho King Bisa Nong Singpho was solemnly observed on January 15 at the Buddha Vihar in historic Bisa Gaon at Ledo, under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly constituency in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Bisa Nong Singpho, the revered chief of the Singpho community of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, had passed away on January 15, 2025, at his residence in Bisa Gaon. On the occasion, family members, relatives and members of the Singpho community gathered to pay tribute to the late leader, remembering his life and legacy.
Known for his inclusive outlook, Singpho King Bisa Nong Singpho was widely respected for his contributions not only to the Singpho society but also to the broader social fabric of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, cutting across caste, creed, race, language and religion. Locals recalled that his guiding principle was to accord equal status and dignity to all his subjects, a vision he upheld through what many described as the true practice of Rajdharma.
“His belief in equality and fairness made him everyone’s favourite,” said a resident of Bisa Gaon, adding that the late Singpho chief led by example and earned admiration well beyond his community.
Following his demise last year, the Assam government accorded him state honours, with officials from the General Administration Department and state protocol services overseeing his cremation on January 17, 2025, at Bisa Gaon.
Marking the first anniversary of his passing, Buddhist monks from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh offered special prayers at the Buddha Vihar, seeking eternal peace and happiness for the departed soul. The observance reflected the deep respect and affection that the Singpho King continues to command among people across the region.
