Sivasagar police have busted a fake currency racket, arresting three individuals from a hotel in the town. The arrests were made during a raid at Raj Place Hotel, where incriminating materials, including special papers and equipment used in the production of counterfeit notes, were recovered.
The accused have been identified as Balin Neog of Chelenghat in Jorhat, Raj Hussain of Na-Kachari, and Sadik Rahman of Kakajan.
According to police sources, the group had been running a fraudulent scheme, luring unsuspecting victims with promises of doubling their money claiming that Rs 5 lakh could be converted into Rs 10 lakh. To carry out the deception, they
allegedly used chemicals to give fake notes the appearance of genuine currency, thereby cheating several individuals.
Authorities are investigating the extent of the racket and whether more people are involved.
