Assam: Six detained in Bongaigaon prostitution racket bust at Usman resort

Police busted an alleged prostitution racket at Usman Resort & Family Restaurant in Santoshpur, Bongaigaon district, on Sunday (August 10), detaining six people, including the resort owner.

Those held include owner Usman Gani, two other men, and three women.

Locals reported seeing the men and women entering the resort under suspicious circumstances.

When confronted, the individuals were found in what witnesses described as indecent conditions, leading to public outrage.

The incident caused tensions in the area, with angry residents vandalising and ransacking several rooms inside the resort. A large police contingent, including senior officers, arrived to control the situation.

For months, locals had accused the resort of involvement in immoral activities.

Allegations stated that Gani continued operating the business despite repeated complaints to the administration. Residents said this incident was the tipping point.

The detainees were taken to Abhayapuri and Mererchar police stations for further investigation.

Police have not yet released details on potential charges.
