In a major crackdown on illegal timber trade, a joint team of Sidli Police and Chirang Forest Department officials intercepted a ten-wheeler container suspected of smuggling valuable Burmese teakwood.
The operation, carried out late last night based on specific intelligence input, led to the seizure of the vehicle on National Highway 27 near Kashikotra, under Sidli Police Station jurisdiction.
The seized container, bearing Uttar Pradesh registration number UP 21 AN 7131, was reportedly transporting illicit timber valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh. Officials confirmed that the timber, identified as high-demand Burmese teak, was being ferried without valid documentation.
While authorities have secured the container and its contents, the investigation is now focused on uncovering the origins and intended destination of the illegal consignment.
So far, no concrete details have emerged regarding where the smuggled timber was sourced from or where it was headed. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their probe to dismantle the smuggling network operating across state lines.
