In a successful anti-narcotics operation, the Amguri police apprehended a smuggler in Patalmari under Amguri police station in Bijni, Chirang on Tuesday night. The arrested individual has been identified as Sattar Ali (35), a resident of Patalmari.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Pomkhedi Bijni Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prasenjit Das, Amguri Police Station in-charge Pankaj Dal, 2nd officer Prince Buragohain, and other officials set up a trap to intercept the accused. The team managed to seize 3 kg 100 grams of ganja from Sattar Ali, who was reportedly en route to Patalmari for the purpose of selling the contraband.
Sources reveal that the police had prior information about the smuggling activities and were able to strategically plan the arrest. As Sattar Ali left his house with the illicit substance, he was caught red-handed by the law enforcement team. The accused, along with the seized ganja, was taken to Amguri police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort by the Chirang district police to curb illegal drug trafficking in the region. Authorities have assured that stringent action will be taken against those involved in the illegal drug trade. The police are also investigating potential links to larger drug networks operating in the area.
Further interrogation of the accused is expected to provide more leads into the supply chain and other possible accomplices involved in the smuggling racket. Meanwhile, the authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
