Sribhumi District Bar Association and the District Advocates' Association have initiated an indefinite sit-in strike to protest what they claim was the public humiliation of their president by a local judge.
According to Bar Association officials, the incident occurred on July 13 when the president, Abdul Bari, was summoned to the judge’s chamber and allegedly reprimanded over recent complaints made against court irregularities. The Association claims that Bari was "held back and insulted" during the questioning, prompting strong backlash from the legal community.
As a result, the Association has decided to suspend all proceedings in Court No. 3 until their demands for resolution are met. The sit-in protest has now entered its second day, with lawyers refusing to return to court duties.
Secretary Dulu Ranjan Das stated that the protest stems from long-standing issues. “For nearly a month, we’ve been raising concerns about irregularities and mismanagement by court staff. We even submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate and the High Court, but no action was taken,” he said.
The Bar Association is demanding an official apology and appropriate steps to address the misconduct they allege took place. Until then, they say, the strike will continue.
There has been no official response yet from the judiciary or the district administration regarding the allegations.
