Assam: Sribhumi devotees pay homage to forefathers on Kushiyara’s sacred waters
A scene of devotion and serenity unfolded at the immersion ghat of the Kushiyara River along Kalibari Road in Sribhumi town, where hundreds of devotees gathered to pay homage to their forefathers. The ritual, steeped in faith and tradition, saw devotees lighting earthen lamps in remembrance of their ancestors, praying for their eternal peace and blessings.
In a symbolic gesture of respect and remembrance, people crafted miniature boats from banana stems, gently placed the glowing lamps upon them, and set them adrift on the tranquil waters of the Kushiyara River. As the flickering flames floated downstream, the river shimmered with light, a reflection of reverence, continuity, and spiritual connection between generations.
The air resonated with quiet chants and the soft glow of lamps created a mesmerizing spectacle, marking the timeless bond between the living and the departed. The ritual not only celebrated ancestral reverence but also highlighted the community’s deep-rooted belief in purity, peace, and remembrance through nature’s elements, water and light.
