Assam: Sribhumi marks 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with grand ‘Ekta Yatra’
The 150th birth anniversary of India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was celebrated with great fervour and patriotic spirit in Sribhumi. The district administration spearheaded the commemorative event, highlighting Patel’s monumental role in uniting India.
The celebration commenced with a floral tribute to Sardar Patel’s portrait, followed by a vibrant ‘Ekta Yatra’ (Unity March) that began from Nilmoni Higher Secondary School. The march, symbolising unity and integrity, passed through the key thoroughfares of the town before concluding at Karimganj College.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from Sribhumi MP Kripanath Mallah, North Karimganj MLA Kamalaksha Dey Purkayastha, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi, Superintendent of Police Leena Doley, former Rajya Sabha MP Mission Ranjan Das, and former BJP district president Subrata Bhattacharya. Numerous students, teachers, and members of different social and political organisations also joined the procession, adding to the spirit of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi and MP Kripanath Mallah underscored Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India, urging citizens to uphold the values of harmony, discipline, and national unity that Patel stood for.
