Assam: Srimanta Sankardeva’s ‘Patni Prasad’ Bhaona staged at Batadrava Than
The timeless Ankiya Naat ‘Patni Prasad’, written by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, was staged at the Natghar of Batadrava Than on the night of October 29, bringing alive the rich Vaishnavite theatrical tradition of Assam.
Organised by the Sattramandali, Batadrava, the performance was held on the occasion of the death anniversary of the late Bhuvaneshwari Aai, former Adhikarini of the Shalguri Satra at Batadrava Than.
Under the direction of noted artiste Ranjit Mahanta, devotees and young performers from the satra captivated the audience with their performances.
‘Patni Prasad’, regarded as Srimanta Sankardeva’s first Ankiya Naat, reflects the power of devotion, the downfall of arrogance and the divine leelas of Lord Krishna.
The play also highlights the distinction between the paths of karma and bhakti, conveying a profound spiritual message that remains relevant to society.
By preserving the traditional form and age-old practices of Ankiya Bhaona, the performance once again celebrated Assam’s rich Vaishnavite cultural heritage.
