Assam: SSB personnel allegedly commits suicide on school premises in Pathsala

An SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) personnel allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the corridor near the bathroom within the school premises at 316 No. Girls' LP School located in Pathsala, Assam.

The deceased was discovered early in the morning on May 19 when students began arriving at the school.

The deceased jawan has been identified as Jyotish Kalita, a resident of Raipur, Pathsala.

According to sources, about a year ago due to some family disagreements with his parents, he had moved out and was living in rented accommodation in Pathsala along with his wife and two children.

The SSB personnel was recently posted in Cooch Behar where he had undergone knee surgery and was staying at home for his recovery.

However, amidst the rising tensions of a possible India-Pakistan conflict, he reportedly received a call to rejoin duty, which is believed to cause him mentally distress and feeling inadequate.

It is suspected that these circumstances may have led him to take the extreme and unfortunate step of ending his life.
