Assam: Student bodies protest in Morigaon demanding justice for Zubeen Garg, hang effigies of accused

The Morigaon district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) staged a protest at Morigaon Police Point, publicly hanging effigies of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddhartha Sharma to express public outrage and dissatisfaction over the ongoing investigation into the death of singer Zubeen Garg.

Speaking at the protest, NYSC members emphasized that the demonstration was organized to demand justice for the late artist, who was known for despising political interference. Protesters alleged that political lobbying and interference between factions of Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma have obstructed a fair and transparent investigation.

Expressing solidarity, the demonstrators stated,“We too are Zubeen’s admirers. We want justice for him. We don’t want politics in the name of Zubeen da’s justice.”

In addition to the protest at the police point, a justice rally was held across Morigaon district, organized by the Students’ Union, drawing participation from several hundred people.

The organizers further urged all political parties to refrain from exploiting the call for justice for the beloved artist for political gains, reinforcing the sentiment that the pursuit of truth should remain free from political influence.
