Assam: Student body opposes reopening of controversial Duliajan petrol pump over pending investigation

The Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has strongly opposed the reopening of a controversial petrol pump in Duliajan, alleging a breach of assurance made by the district administration and Oil India authorities.

The student body’s central committee expressed deep concern after the fuel station, which had previously come under scrutiny, resumed operations despite an earlier commitment from authorities that it would remain closed until a thorough investigation was concluded.

Terming the decision as "irresponsible and unjustified," AJYCP condemned the move, asserting that it undermines the trust of the indigenous populace and raises questions about administrative accountability.

In response to AJYCP’s protest, Oil India has reportedly issued an official letter inviting the student organization’s central representatives for a dialogue, scheduled for tomorrow. While AJYCP has agreed to attend the discussion, it has made its position clear, any decision that overlooks the rights and concerns of the indigenous communities will not be accepted.

Reiterating its stand, the AJYCP has demanded the immediate shutdown of the petrol pump, which lies within Oil India’s operational area, and has called for the cancellation of its lease agreement.

The issue continues to spark tensions in Duliajan, as AJYCP vows to escalate its agitation if appropriate action is not taken.
