Assam: Student body takes initiative to repair crumbling National Highway 37 in Doomdooma

The deteriorating state of National Highway 37 in Doomdooma town, Tinsukia district, has sparked widespread frustration among residents, leading to a grassroots response from the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP).

The Doomdooma Regional Committee of this nationalist youth organization stepped in where government action has fallen short, organizing a shramdaan to address the critical road conditions.

Today, members of the AJYCP rolled up their sleeves and took to the streets to repair the highway themselves. Their actions came in the wake of mounting anger directed at the Public Works Department (PWD) for its failure to address the hazardous state of this key roadway. The AJYCP has strongly urged the authorities to expedite the repair and reconstruction of National Highway 37, a lifeline that cuts through the heart of Doomdooma town.

The neglect of this major thoroughfare has had significant repercussions for the local community, causing daily hardships for commuters and residents alike. This situation has also fueled a broader wave of discontent, with various political and social organizations staging peaceful protests to demand urgent action.

Residents of Doomdooma have expressed their gratitude and admiration for the AJYCP’s efforts. The student body’s initiative to fill the potholes with stones has been hailed as a necessary intervention, bringing temporary relief to those who rely on the highway for their daily commute. However, the call for a permanent solution continues to grow louder as the town awaits a comprehensive response from the authorities.
