Assam: Student injured in alleged assault at Jogighopa school, parents raise safety concerns
Allegations of mismanagement and negligence have surfaced against St. Xavier's Public School located in Assam’s Bongaigaon district after a student was reportedly injured in an assault on the school premises.
According to allegations raised by parents, the school administration failed to give adequate importance to the safety and well-being of students. The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday, May 20 during school dispersal hours when a Class VII student allegedly assaulted another student inside the campus.
The injured student reportedly sustained serious injuries, including visible marks on different parts of his face. Parents alleged that despite the seriousness of the incident, the school authorities neither provided first aid nor referred the student to a hospital for medical treatment.
Guardians further alleged that they were not informed about the incident by the school administration. The matter reportedly came to light through other sources, following which the parents rushed to the school premises.
The acting principal of the school, allegedly made dismissive remarks regarding the incident. It has also been alleged that he misbehaved with journalists who had gone to cover the matter.
Local residents alleged that the school owner, and his brother have been creating an atmosphere of disorder within the institution for a long time. According to the allegations, the two brothers, who reportedly came from Kerala, established the English-medium school in Jogighopa and have been running it in an arbitrary manner.
The incident has triggered concern among parents and local residents regarding student safety and the functioning of the institution. Parents have demanded immediate intervention and appropriate action from the district administration.
