Assam: Student suffers head injury at Nagaon school, parents allege delay in medical assistance

A private school in Assam’s Nagaon district has come under scrutiny following allegations by parents that the school authorities failed to arrange immediate medical assistance for a student who sustained a head injury after falling on the school premises.

The incident reportedly took place at Imperial Academy Senior Secondary School in Bormar, under the Samaguri area of Nagaon district.

According to the student's parents, the child sustained a head injury while at school. However, they alleged that neither the teachers nor the school authorities arranged medical treatment or informed them about the incident.

The matter came to light when the student's father arrived at the school to take his son home after classes. He noticed the injury on the child's head and questioned the teachers about why medical assistance had not been provided.

The father further alleged that the teachers and members of the school management committee responded that arranging medical treatment was not their responsibility.

Following the incident, the parents took the child to a hospital, where he reportedly required two stitches to the head.

The student's father subsequently lodged a formal complaint against the school at Samaguri Police Station, seeking action over the alleged negligence.

The incident has raised concerns over the responsibility of educational institutions to respond to medical emergencies involving students and ensure that parents are promptly informed when children sustain injuries on school premises.

Meanwhile, the teachers and school authorities of Imperial Academy Senior Secondary School have not issued any official statement addressing the allegations so far.
