The sub-registrar office of the Abhayapuri subdivision in Assam's Bongaigaon district was sealed by the North Salmara Sub-Divisional Administration over alleged land sale. The step was taken by the administration for selling land to Doubtful (D) voters, according to an office staff.
For those unversed, D voter, also referred to as Dubious voter is a category of voters in Assam who are disenfranchised by the government on the account of their alleged lack of proper citizenship credentials. The D voters are determined by special tribunals under the Foreigners Act, and the person declared as D voter is not given the elector's photo identity card. .
As the doors of the office were locked, all the employees had to stay inside the office premises which disrupted the workflow.
As communicated by the subdivisional administration, a probe in the matter is underway.
