Tai Khamyang scholar, researcher, and philosopher Samsa Pangyuk marked his 100th birthday on Saturday in his hometown of 1 Number Powaimukh. The event, held with immense fervour, was a testament to his lasting contributions to the Tai Khamyang community and the Buddhist faith.
Born on November 5, 1924, in a humble farmer family in Powaimukh under the Bhittorpowai Gaon Panchayat, Samsa Pangyuk's life has been an inspiring journey of dedication to preserving the rich history, culture, language, and literature of the Tai Khamyang people. Throughout his life, he wrote extensively on the Tai Khamyang language, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge that continues to shape the understanding of this indigenous community.
Notably, Samsa Pangyuk was instrumental in the construction of the Bhittorpowai Buddha Vihar, a project that holds great significance for the residents of the area. His deep commitment to Buddhism, evident in his strict adherence to its Eightfold Path, has made him a revered figure in both the academic and religious spheres.
The 100th birthday celebration saw heartfelt tributes from various organizations, including the All Assam Buddhist Association’s Tinsukia district committee, the Powaimukh Gaon Managing Committee, the Powaimukh ME School Managing Committee, and teachers, along with the residents of Bhittorpowai Gaon. The community honored Samsa Pangyuk with an appreciation certificate, Assamese Phoolam Gamosha, Cheleng Chador, and other tokens of respect.
Surrounded by his large family, including five sons, three daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives, Samsa Pangyuk expressed gratitude for the love and respect showered upon him by the community.
