Assam: Tea estate assistant manager arrested after woman alleges sexual assault

A tea estate assistant manager in Assam’s Sribhumi district has been arrested and sent to judicial custody following a complaint of alleged sexual assault by a woman who had gone to his bungalow to provide assistance, police said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Trinayan Bhuyan said a complaint was received against Faiz Amir, assistant manager of Lalacherra Tea Estate, alleging that he sexually assaulted the woman at his bungalow.

According to the police, the woman alleged that she was forced into the act but managed to escape and subsequently approached the authorities.

“Following the complaint, we registered a case under the relevant sections of the law,” Bhuyan said.

Amir, who is originally from Samastipur district in Bihar, was subsequently apprehended by the police and is currently in judicial custody, the officer said.

Police said the investigation into the alleged rape is underway. The woman has also undergone a medical examination as part of the investigation.
