Assam: Tea worker killed in another elephant attack in Kaliabor

In yet another tragic incident of human-elephant conflict in Assam, a tea garden worker lost his life after being attacked by a wild elephant in Kaliabor on Saturday (May 17) evening.

The deceased has been identified as Bheem Tanti, a resident of Line No. 12 in the playground area of Shakmuthi Tea Estate.

According to eyewitnesses, Tanti was returning home after completing work in a privately owned garden located near the Shakmuthi Tea Estate when he was suddenly attacked by a wild elephant at Hargao.

Despite efforts by locals to chase the animal away, the elephant inflicted fatal injuries on Tanti. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

This incident has once again brought to light the growing tension between humans and wildlife in the region, particularly around the tea gardens, where elephant movement has become increasingly common due to shrinking forest cover and habitat disruption.
