Assam teacher arrested for social media remarks on Delhi blast

A private school teacher from Parbatjhora in Assam’s Kokrajhar district has been arrested for allegedly posting objectionable comments on social media related to the recent Delhi blast.

The accused, identified as Enamul Hoque of Debitala Part 3 village under Kazigaon Police Station, was employed at Shantipur National School.

Police took him into custody following the registration of a case (No. 71/2025) under sections 113(3), 153, 352, and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Haque was later produced before the district judicial court in Kokrajhar.

The arrest comes amid a broader crackdown across Assam, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that 17 people have been detained for praising the Delhi blast through various online platforms.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards extremism, adding that security agencies are scrutinising over 100 social media posts and will continue operations until the entire network behind such activities is neutralised.
