Assam teachers protest in Silchar, seek rollback of SND SPARSH salary order

More than 100 teachers under the Assam State Primary Teachers' Association staged a one-hour protest outside the District Education Officer's office in Silchar on August 7, demanding the withdrawal of an order that makes the SND SPARSH module mandatory for the disbursal of salaries to VO-SRD teachers.

 

Holding placards and banners, the protesters raised slogans against the Assam government and the state's Education Minister, alleging that the new system would create administrative difficulties and delay the timely payment of salaries. The protest site echoed with slogans as teachers pressed for immediate action.

 

The association argued that linking salary payments to the SND SPARSH module would add unnecessary procedural hurdles for VO-SRD teachers, many of whom are already facing administrative and salary-related issues. They said these concerns had been repeatedly brought to the notice of the authorities, but no concrete steps had been taken.

 

The symbolic sit-in was organised to demand the immediate withdrawal of the order. Association leaders said the issue directly affects the livelihoods of teachers and urged the government to address their grievances without further delay.

 

Warning of intensified protests, the association said the agitation would not end with the one-day demonstration. It said a larger statewide movement would be launched if the government failed to withdraw the order and resolve the pending issues faced by SRD teachers.

 

The protesters maintained that their campaign would continue until their demands were met.
