Communal tensions flared in Dhubri town after the recovery of beef meat from the premises of Hanuman Mandir in Ward No. 3 on Sunday, prompting a immediate response from the district administration to prevent further escalation.
Following the discovery of the prohibited meat, unrest spread across the locality, leading to late-night demolitions of shops allegedly linked to the sale of beef. Bulldozers were deployed by the administration as part of the eviction drive to restore order.
Fresh violence erupted on Monday when miscreants reportedly attacked vegetable vendors and e-rickshaw drivers near Dhubri Magistrate Colony and New Market. Police intervened promptly, firing warning shots in the air to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control.
Dhubri Superintendent of Police, accompanied by senior district officials, visited the violence-affected sites and is overseeing the law and order situation. Several shops and business establishments voluntarily shut down in response to the disturbances.
It needs mentioned here, one person identified as Ramjan Ali, resident of Baluchar, Dhubri district, was arrested on suspected links to Sunday Hanuman Temple beef recovery controversy. A case has been filed against Ramjan Ali under case no - 266/25 298/299/61 (2) (a) BNS 13 (1) ACP Act 2021
In a bid to maintain public order, the district administration has invoked Section 188 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), enforcing strict prohibitory measures across Dhubri town. All commercial activities have been suspended until further notice, and gatherings of five or more individuals have been banned.
Additionally, rallies, processions, and public meetings have been prohibited. Authorities clarified that emergency services will continue to operate without disruption.
Security forces have been deployed in sensitive zones, and residents have been urged to maintain calm and cooperate with officials. The administration is on high alert and is working diligently to restore peace and normalcy in the region.
