Assam: Tension in Kokrajhar as police asks NLFB cadres to leave designated camp

A large contingent of Kokrajhar police today raided the designated camp of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) at Chandamari near Gaurang river in Kokrajhar town this evening and ordered the cadres to leave the camp. As a result the NLFB cadres, who were unwilling to leave the camps, are engaged in a verbal duel with the police personnel.

The standoff between the two sides is currently continuing at the time of filing this report.

It has been learnt that a huge contingent of Assam Police led by Kokrajhar Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Prithviraj Rajkhowa suddenly entered the camp of the pro talk NLFB at Chandamari in Kokrajhar and ordered 53 cadres staying in the designated camp to vacate the camp.

The sudden police action has created a tense atmosphere as the NLFB cadres are refusing to leave the camp.

However, there has been a lingering tense atmosphere of tension between both the sides over the issue of vacating of camps for some time now.

It may be recalled that the former NLFB cadres of Kokrajhar had been earlier instructed by the Assam Police to leave the camp at the behest of the government, but the former militant group was in a desperate position for which they have been unwilling to comply.
