The residence of former BJP district president Subrata Bhattacharya, located on Langai Road in Sribhumi, was targeted by unidentified thieves late at night on May 25.
According to reports, the miscreants forcefully broke the latch of the household’s prayer room and looted several valuable items, including costly furniture and rare religious artifacts. A sizeable police contingent reached the scene shortly after the incident to carry out a preliminary investigation.
Locals note that no such incident occurred during Bhattacharya’s active tenure as district president. However, shortly after he vacated the position, the thieves allegedly seized the opportunity to carry out the break-in, raising suspicions about the timing and motive.
The incident has cast a spotlight on the deteriorating law and order situation in the area. Concerned residents have questioned the effectiveness of night patrolling by local police, particularly in vulnerable residential zones.
While visibly perturbed by the incident, Subrata Bhattacharya refrained from issuing any statement to the media.
Meanwhile, the town's residents have expressed growing unease over the increasing spate of thefts, urging authorities to ramp up vigilance and ensure tighter night security measures.
