Assam: Thousands of devotees gather at Sivasagar's Shivadol, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi offers prayers

Maha Shivaratri, one of the most important festivals for Hindus, is being celebrated with great devotion and faith across the state of Assam, including in Sivasagar.

Sivasagar's Shivadol, which is known for its spiritual significance has become the center of the celebrations, as thousands of devotees have gathered since early morning to offer prayers, standing in long queues.

The celebrations at Shivdol are part of a four-day festival that began yesterday. Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi also offered prayers at the temple, honouring lord Shiva.

Speaking to the media, he extended his wishes to the devotees gathered at the temple on this auspicious occasion and prayed for the fulfillment of their prayers. He also recognized the students appearing for the class 10 examinations and wished them success in their endeavors.

In addition to the religious ceremonies, a large fair is being held in conjunction with the festival, a tradition that has continued for several years. This year, over 500 business establishments, both local and from other states, are participating in the fair, offering a range of products from local handicrafts to regional delicacies. The fair has become a major attraction for both locals and visitors.

The festival will conclude on February 28, and in honor of the occasion, the Sivasagar district administration has declared February 27, as a local holiday.
