Assam: Three dead as LPG cylinder explodes at industrial unit in Cachar district, police launch probe

A massive LPG cylinder explosion at an industrial unit in Assam's Cachar district claimed the lives of at least three workers and left several others seriously injured on Sunday, July 26 prompting a police investigation into the incident.

The explosion occurred at KD Road Industries in Pangram under the Udharbond Assembly constituency. According to initial reports, the blast was so powerful that it shook the surrounding area, causing panic among workers and local residents. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll could rise.

Rescue operations were launched immediately after the explosion, with the injured workers being rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment. Medical authorities are closely monitoring those with critical injuries.

Following the incident, police sealed the main entrance of the factory to maintain law and order and facilitate the investigation. Senior officials, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Cachar, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), and a large contingent of security personnel, visited the site to oversee the rescue and inquiry. The bodies of the deceased workers have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.

Preliminary findings indicate that the explosion was triggered by an LPG cylinder blast. However, police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and whether any lapses in safety protocols contributed to the tragedy. Authorities are also working to establish the identities of the deceased and injured workers.
