Assam: Three minor girls reported missing in Tinsukia’s Philobari, trafficking angle suspected
Three minor girls studying in Classes VII and VIII have been reported missing from Philobari area in Assam’s Tinsukia district, prompting fears of possible human trafficking.
The missing girls are the daughters of Montu Tanti and Monbhai Tanti of Rongpur Mechgaon, and Ajay Shah of Borgaon under Philobari. According to family members, the girls went missing under suspicious circumstances, following which concerns were raised that they may have been lured away by a trafficking network and taken outside the state.
The families have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Philobari Police Station seeking immediate intervention. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to trace the whereabouts of the minors.
Sources said that efforts are underway to track possible leads, including the involvement of any organised group. However, authorities have not yet confirmed whether the girls have been taken outside Assam or who may be responsible.
The incident has caused anxiety among residents in the area, with locals urging swift action to ensure the safe return of the minors.
