Assam: Three-month-old infant killed in massive fire in Kaliabor, two houses reduced to ashes
A devastating fire incident claimed the life of a three-month-old infant and left two others injured in Kaliabor's Borghuli, Assam on January 6. The blaze, which broke out at the residential premises of Rajab Ali and Matibur Rahman, rapidly engulfed the houses, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
According to sources, two houses were completely gutted in the massive blaze. Cash amounting to Rs 2.50 lakh, along with household belongings and vital documents, were reduced to ashes. Villagers estimate that the total loss caused by the fire exceeds Rs 20 lakh, rendering the affected families virtually homeless overnight.
Fire tenders from Ambagan and Kaliabor rushed to the scene following reports of the blaze and managed to bring the fire under control after strenuous efforts. However, tragedy struck as the three-month-old child of Matibur Rahman, who suffered critical burn injuries, succumbed despite attempts to rescue those trapped inside.
Police personnel from Chulung and Uluwali police stations arrived at the spot soon after the incident and have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire. An Executive Magistrate also visited the affected area and initiated necessary administrative measures, including damage assessment and relief procedures.
