Assam: Three prisoners escape from Golaghat hospital ward, flee with police motorcycle

Three prisoners lodged in the captive ward of Shaheed Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Assam's Golaghat district escaped early on July 26 after allegedly taking advantage of a lapse in security. The trio also fled on a motorcycle belonging to the police personnel deployed at the hospital.

The escaped prisoners have been identified as Najibur Rahman, Rupam Kalita and Ajay Gowala. Rahman is the prime accused in the Golaghat triple murder case.

According to initial information, the three men had been admitted to the hospital for medical treatment and were being guarded in the prisoner ward. They allegedly escaped at around 5 am after a police personnel on duty reportedly fell asleep. During their escape, they took the police motorcycle parked at the hospital premises.

The incident prompted an immediate response from the police, with checkpoints set up across the district and a large-scale search operation launched to trace the fugitives. Raids are underway at multiple locations, while neighbouring districts have also been alerted.

The escape has raised serious concerns over security arrangements at the hospital as well as the vigilance of the police personnel assigned to guard the prisoners. Authorities have initiated an investigation to ascertain how the security breach occurred.
