Assam: Three youths suspected to be ULFA-I linkmen injured in police firing in Tinsukia

Three youths in Tinsukia district, Assam, were reportedly shot and severely injured by police on Sunday. Initial reports suggest the police suspected the youths of trying to join the banned militant group, United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I).

The alleged shooting is believed to have taken place at Dirak in the Kakopathar area. The injured have been named as Biswanath Buragohain from Sadiya, Manoj Buragohain from Nizarapara, and Nabin Neog from Milan Nagar.

The trio sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were initially treated at Tinsukia Civil Hospital before being transferred to Assam Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

This incident comes amidst a war of words between ULFA-I and Assam DGP GP Singh, with the former denying any connection with individuals recently arrested across the state on suspicion of being linked to the group.

Singh has reiterated the Assam police's commitment to the safety of the state's residents and their desire to avoid conflict.
