Assam: Tiwa organisations stage protest in Morigaon, march to DC's office demanding inclusion in sixth schedule
Several Tiwa organisations took out a large protest rally, marching from the office of the All Assam Tribal Sangha to the Morigaon Deputy Commissioner’s office on December 12. The demonstration saw heavy participation as the rally made its way through the heart of the town, drawing widespread public attention.
The protest was jointly organised by the All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU), Tiwa Youth Students’ Council, All Tiwa Protection Committee, and the Belt Block and Land Protection Committee. Organisers claimed that more than a thousand supporters turned up for the agitational programme, reflecting growing discontent within the community over unresolved issues.
Addressing the gathering, All Tiwa Students’ Union president Cheniram Malang reiterated the community’s long-standing demands and criticised what he termed as prolonged negligence by the authorities.
Malang said the agitation would continue until concrete steps were taken to address the concerns raised by the Tiwa organisations.
