Trinamool Congress leaders gathered in Tiamari, Dhubri, on Sunday, accusing former state president Ripun Bora of undermining the party in Assam.
The meeting, organised by the Dhubri District Committee, drew significant participation, with Assam Trinamool Congress President Romen Chandra Borthakur and senior leaders like Dulu Ahmed, Twarit Chatterjee, and NI Choudhury addressing the gathering.
Borthakur did not hold back in his criticism of Bora, describing his actions as deeply damaging to the party. "Ripun Bora has done a lot of damage to the Trinamool Congress in Assam. However, we are determined to emerge stronger in the upcoming panchayat and assembly elections. This time, no government will be formed in Assam without the support of the Trinamool Congress," he asserted.
The state president also targeted the Congress party, accusing it of contributing to Assam’s political instability. He questioned the leadership of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, led by Bhupen Bora, and alleged that the Congress had enabled the BJP's rise in the state.
Referring to unresolved accusations, Borthakur brought up Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's earlier claims against Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain, calling it an example of political inaction.
Dulu Ahmed supported Borthakur's statements, accusing Ripun Bora of misusing party funds before defecting to the Congress. "He has not merely left the party; he has embezzled funds meant for party candidates and fled to the Congress," Ahmed claimed.
The event ended with over 200 individuals formally joining the Trinamool Congress, signalling growing support for the party in Dhubri. Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to taking on both the BJP and Congress in the state, aiming for a stronger foothold in Assam’s political landscape.
