Police have arrested two of the three individuals accused of sexually assaulting a Class 9 student at Dimau. The main accused, Sunil Tapan, and Bhaiti, also known as Luther Tapan, were taken into custody. However, one suspect remains at large.
The victim and her mother have demanded the immediate arrest of the car driver who allegedly abducted the teenager on November 22.
The family has also called for a thorough investigation to ensure that all three individuals involved in the incident receive strict punishment.
On November 27, a massive protest broke out in Sivasagar as several organizations decried the alleged abduction and assault of a Class 9 student from Saru Paleng in Demow, Assam. The incident, which occurred on November 22, has sparked widespread outrage, particularly over the police's failure to arrest the accused.
Protesters, led by groups like the Assam Students' and Youth Federation, Scheduled Caste Students' Union, and All Koch-Rajbongshi Students' Union, assembled at the Daul Mukhi intersection in Sivasagar. Holding banners and placards, they raised slogans demanding justice, including "Hang the rapists!" and "Shame on Demow Police for their inaction!"
The accused have been identified as Sunil Tapna, Bhaiti Tapna, and an unidentified individual. The lack of any arrests so far has fueled public anger, with demonstrators calling for immediate action to ensure justice for the victim.
