Assam: Two critically injured after being hit by vehicle marked ‘Judge’ in Sribhumi
A hit-and-run accident in Assam's Sribhumi has left two pedestrians critically injured and few vehicles damaged, raising concerns over road safety and accountability.
The incident involved a vehicle bearing the marking “JUDGE”, which allegedly lost control on the main road before ploughing into several vehicles and pedestrians. According to local residents, the vehicle (registration number AS/01/DN/7594) first rammed into a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw, followed by a scooter, before striking two pedestrians.
The impact left a cab severely damaged, while the two pedestrians sustained critical injuries. They were immediately rushed by locals to Karimganj Civil Hospital for urgent medical treatment. The injured have been identified as Ajit Dhar and Anup Chakraborty.
Traffic police later seized the vehicle and took it to the police station as part of the ongoing investigation.
Sources indicated that the vehicle is owned by a magistrate of the Sribhumi court. The official has been identified as Shantanu Kumar Sharma, who was reportedly on his way to work at the time of the incident.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the circumstances leading to the accident. Further investigation is underway.
