Assam: Two killed, 30 injured in separate road accidents in Kaliabor

Two people lost their lives and 30 others, including women and children, were injured in two separate road accidents in Kaliabor on Monday.

In the first incident at Rangalu, a vehicle (registration number AS-12-CC-1542) carrying Bol Bom devotees lost control, hit a tree, and plunged into a gorge. The driver, Lohit Roy from Dhekiyajuli, died on the spot. The accident occurred as the vehicle was returning from Sivasagar to Dhekiyajuli. Among the passengers, 30 sustained injuries—many of them women and children—and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a separate accident in Harmoti, a biker identified as Kitab Ali was killed when an unidentified vehicle struck him from behind while he was returning home from the market. Though he was immediately taken to the Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival by medical staff.

Police have launched an investigation into both incidents. The identity of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case remains unknown.

These tragic events have cast a shadow over the Kaliabor area, raising fresh concerns about road safety and driver accountability in the region.
