Assam: Two killed in elephant attack in Goalpara

Two people were killed in an encounter with wild elephant in Lakhipur in Goalpara district. At approximately 10:30 pm last night, the wild elephant attacked the people killing them.

Among the victims of the incident was Atul Chandra Nath, a resident of Hatgaon, whose life was cut short as he, accompanied by an unidentified woman, was on his way home on a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses recount a desperate attempt by the duo to evade the charging elephants, but their efforts were in vain.

The aftermath of the attack saw both Atul Chandra Nath and the unnamed woman succumb to the ferocity of the wild elephants. Local authorities, including the Lakhipur police and forest officials responded to the scene of the incident retrieving the lifeless bodies of the victims.

Presently, the bodies lie at the Laxmipur police station, awaiting transfer to the Goalpara Civil Hospital for postmortem examinations.
