Assam: Two minors rescued from human trafficking in Chirang
Barely a week after the Dhhing case, a fresh incident of sexual assault on two minors has come to light in Chirang. The incident in Mozabari under Sidli police station involves a married man, Jahiruddin, accused of luring and assaulting the minors.
Jahiruddin allegedly lured two minors from the Koch Rajbongshi community and one from a religious minority community into his house with false promises on August 20. Thereafter, the victims were sexually assaulted. The incident came to light after the guardians of the victims lodged a formal complaint at Sidli police station.
Sidli police have launched an intensive operation with senior officials in the forefront of investigation. The investigators are conducting searches at the house of Jahiruddin, who evaded arrest and is at large. Police are continuing their efforts to locate and apprehend the accused with a view to ensuring the safety of victims and justice.
A local resident claimed that on August 20, Jahiruddin promised two minors job opportunities in Hyderabad and lured them. He then took them to the house of one of his associates when it became clear that Jahiruddin wanted to traffic them. Luckily, locals intervened and rescued the girls, returning them to their families. We demand that human trafficking be halted immediately. We were able to rescue the girls, and we extend our thanks to the police for their prompt action. These girls fell prey to a human trafficking scheme, and we urge the police to take strict action about such incidents in the future. We also call upon Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to address how women can be empowered when human trafficking continues. The crimes against women must be confronted; we insist that human trafficking in Chirang be stopped.
