Assam University marks 33rd Foundation Day; former Air Force Chief urges youth to build ‘Vikshit Bharat’
Assam University on January 21, celebrated its 33rd Foundation Day with a series of events, during which former Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha called upon students to actively contribute towards the vision of building a ‘Vikshit Bharat’ by 2047.
Addressing the gathering in his capacity as Chancellor of the university, Raha highlighted India’s growing stature as an emerging global power. He noted that although Assam University is relatively young, its achievements over the years have been significant, and congratulated the university fraternity for its academic and institutional progress.
The Foundation Day celebrations commenced in the morning with the hoisting of the national flag at the Netaji Subhas Stage ground by Chancellor Raha, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant and chief guest, former Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane. Floral tributes were later paid at the Language Martyrs’ Memorial.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pant presented an overview of the university’s growth in education, research and infrastructure. He said that over the past year, more than 500 research papers had been published and several innovative projects had been registered for patents. He added that the university has achieved numerous milestones over the last 32 years.
Chief guest Manoj Mukund Naravane extended his greetings to the university community and said that the Northeast holds a special place in his heart. Recalling a previous visit to Mizoram via Silchar, he reflected on the significant changes the town has witnessed over the years.
During the programme, the Celebration Committee felicitated Professor Shibashis Biswas, Vice-Chancellor of the Difu campus, along with the distinguished guests. On the same day, a mobile planetarium, the extended guest house building and a sundial at Nakshatra Batika were formally inaugurated.
Among others present at the event were Registrar Pradosh Kiran Nath, Finance Officer Shubhadip Dhar, Controller of Examinations Suprabir Dutta Roy and Prof. Sudipta Roy, Chairman of the Celebration Committee.
