Assam: Upside-down flag hoisting sparks controversy at Bir Chilarai Diwas celebration in Gauripur
Assam's Gauripur celebrated the 515th birth anniversary of Mahabir Chilarai with grandeur under the initiative of the Biswa Mahabir Chilarai Janma Jayanti Celebration Committee.
The event took an unexpected turn when a controversy erupted over the improper hoisting of the Koch Rajbanshi Gamosa flag.
Celebration committee members hoisted the flag upside down in the presence of distinguished guests and attendees. The incident created a sensation, drawing immediate criticism from several attendees and members of the community.
Following the backlash, the flag was promptly re-hoisted correctly, ensuring that the celebration continued smoothly.
Organisers later expressed regret over the incident, calling it an "unintentional mistake" while reaffirming their commitment to upholding the legacy of Biswa Mahabir Chilarai with dignity and respect.
The daylong programme was attended by prominent dignitaries, including former Golakganj MLA Ashwini Roy Sarkar.
