Assam: Villagers protest against GRS in Nagaon's Dhing over alleged corruption in PMAY, MGNREGA funds
A group of villagers staged a protest at the Sonaibera Batamari Gram Panchayat office under Dhing Development Block in Assam's Nagaon district on June 30, levelling corruption allegations against Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) Abdul Mannan.
The protesters alleged that Mannan demanded bribes from beneficiaries for releasing wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) linked to houses sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Raising slogans against the GRS, the demonstrators demanded his immediate transfer and called for action over the alleged irregularities.
The protesters claimed that poor beneficiaries were being forced to pay money to access benefits meant for them under government welfare schemes.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and Abdul Mannan has not publicly responded to the claims. No official statement has yet been issued by the district administration or the Rural Development Department regarding the allegations.
