Assam: Watershed Yatra 2.0 concludes in Kokrajhar, boosts water conservation awareness

The Watershed Yatra 2.0, an initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Samriddhi Yojana, successfully concluded in Kokrajhar, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), leaving a lasting impact on water conservation awareness among local communities.

The event was inaugurated by District Commissioner Masanda M. Pertin in Daljhora village, where a land-worship ceremony, tree plantation, and the flagging off of the Watershed Yatra awareness van marked the occasion. The Kokrajhar District Land Conservation Department organized an awareness meeting to engage and educate villagers on the importance of sustainable water management.

During the meeting, Montu Deuri, Project Manager of the Kokrajhar Subdivision Land Conservation Department, outlined the objectives of the Watershed Yatra, emphasizing its role in promoting water conservation. DC Masanda M. Pertin, speaking as the chief guest, highlighted the initiative’s significance in safeguarding water resources across Bodoland’s border regions, particularly in areas near Bhutan. He commended the project for fostering public awareness and expressed optimism about its long-term impact.

Acknowledging the relentless efforts of Kokrajhar’s Watershed Warriors and Dharani Sisters, the District Commissioner praised their dedication in driving the campaign forward. Manidwip Sutiya, Additional Director and Head of BTC's Land Conservation Department, was also present at the event.

The Watershed Yatra 2.0 awareness van, which has been traversing 20 districts of Assam, reached Kokrajhar after covering Bongaigaon and Chirang. It is set to continue its journey to Dhubri district next.

To further reinforce the message of water conservation, the Land Conservation Department organized street plays, a children's drawing competition, and an award ceremony honoring six Water Warriors for their outstanding contributions.

The successful execution of the Watershed Yatra 2.0 has strengthened community engagement in sustainable water management, fostering a collective commitment to preserving natural resources for future generations.
