Assam: Wild buffalo sparks panic in Jamugurihat, forest officials monitoring animal's movement

Panic gripped the residents of Khalihamari village in Jamugurihat on Tuesday morning after a wild buffalo was spotted roaming freely in the area, raising fears of a possible attack. The incident comes close on the heels of a fatal encounter in Tezpur, where a pedestrian lost his life following an attack by a rampaging wild buffalo, triggering statewide concern.

The buffalo is believed to have strayed from Kaziranga National Park and was seen meandering through agricultural fields near the village early in the morning. Its presence caused considerable alarm, particularly among guests who had arrived to attend a wedding ceremony in the locality.

Upon being alerted, forest department personnel promptly arrived at the scene and are closely monitoring the animal's movements. Authorities have urged locals to remain indoors and avoid provoking the animal, while efforts are underway to guide the buffalo back to its natural habitat.

Local residents have expressed concern over the increasing frequency of wild animal incursions into populated areas, demanding stronger mitigation measures and enhanced patrolling along forest fringes.
