Dr. Pranab Das, a senior veterinarian from the Guwahati State Zoo, successfully tranquilized a large wild buffalo that had been creating havoc in Tezpur's municipal area since July 1. The buffalo had strayed from Kaziranga National Park due to recent floods.
On July 3, the buffalo attacked residents Dukhi Manjhi, Nibha Sarkar, and Bimal Das in Kumar village. The following night, a wild elephant also attacked Bobbin Saikia, Mridul Bordoloi, and Vikramaditya Kalita in the same village.
Last night, three more people were attacked in Kumar village. While taking shelter in the bushes near the government residence of the Sonitpur district commissioner, veterinary doctor Dr. Pranab Das managed to tranquilize the buffalo this afternoon. The buffalo was then safely relocated to Laokhowa Sanctuary with the joint efforts of the forest department and local police.
