Assam: Wild elephant herd enters tea estate, sparks alarm among locals in Tezpur

There has been a growing concern among residents of Tezpur as a large herd of wild elephants, including calves, has ventured into several areas, such as Rangapara and nearby regions.

The elephants are believed to have strayed from the Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food, prompting unease among local residents.

In Rangapara's Adabari Tea Estate, the herd has been seen moving freely during daylight hours, creating anxiety among the plantation workers. Their presence in and around the estate, coupled with their movement along roads and gardens, has left the community on edge.

Wildlife officials and local authorities are closely monitoring the herd’s activities to prevent potential human-wildlife conflicts. Efforts are underway to manage the situation and ensure the safety of both residents and the animals.
