Wild elephants emerging from Nameri National Park have caused destruction in Sonitpur's Dharikati Paleng village, highlighting the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region.
In the latest incident, a herd of wild elephants entered the village at night, demolishing the home and kitchen of Bipul Nath. Fortunately, Nath and his family escaped unharmed. This recent rampage has escalated fears among villagers, who have reported similar encounters with wild elephants in the past.
Residents of Dharikati Paleng village allege that wild elephants frequently venture out of Nameri National Park in search of food, often leading to fatal encounters and substantial property damage. The elephants' increasing presence in the area is attributed to deforestation and habitat destruction, forcing them to seek food in human settlements.
The situation is particularly dire in Sonitpur district, where the population of wild elephants has surged. The animals, driven by hunger, enter villages like Dharikati Paleng, causing chaos and destruction. This elephant-human conflict has become a pressing issue, with villagers demanding immediate intervention to protect their lives and property.
