Assam: Woman allegedly deceived in the name of love by local youth in Margherita tea garden area

A disturbing incident has come to light from the Basti Line area of Margherita Tea Garden, situated near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, where a young woman was allegedly deceived and exploited under the guise of love by a youth from the same locality.

The accused, Bikash Kumar—son of Dhanu Kumar, a former president of the Village Defence Party (VDP)—reportedly established a false romantic relationship with the woman. Allegations suggest that he took advantage of her trust, entered into a physical relationship with her, and has since gone into hiding.

In a local community meeting held earlier, Bikash Kumar had publicly acknowledged his actions and had even provided a signed undertaking to accept the woman as his wife. However, matters took a turn when the victim's family visited the accused's residence on Tuesday morning to formalize the arrangement. They were allegedly humiliated and turned away by Bikash Kumar’s family.

Following this, members of the local community, along with the victim’s family, filed a formal complaint at the Margherita Police Station, demanding justice and immediate action against the accused.
